instead
instead是副词，有种「作为替代选择」的感觉。
我们可以把instead放在句子的开始或结尾处，不过在英文口语中，放在结尾比较常见。
Flying to Beijing is too expensive so he is going to take the train instead .
搭飞机到北京太贵了，他只好选择搭火车。
instead of
instead of是介词，意思同样也是「替代」，不过用法却不相同。
常用的结构为「instead of +名词/人名/代名词/ (动词+ ing)」，记住动词后面一定要加ing喔！
I gave him advice instead of money.
我给了他忠告，而没有给他钱。
Instead of wasting time, she always studies hard.
她总是用功读书，而非浪费光阴。
in case / in case of
in case
in case是连接词短语，用来描述「我们要预先做好某些准备，以防万一」，常用结构为「in case +句子」。
Take an umbrella with you in case it rains!
带把雨伞以防下雨！
We have to look after the children in case they disappear.
我们得照看着孩子们，以免他们不见了。
in case of
in case of是介词短语，用来描述「如果/当事情发生时我们该做些什么」，意思和in case差不多。因为of是介词，后面通常加名词或代名词，常用结构为「 in case of +名词/代名词」。
In case of emergency, call the police.
如果发生紧急事件，打给警察。
You can go to the hospital in case of illness.
如果生病了，你可以去医院。
补充：
in the case of意思是「至于；在…情况下」，在提及另一件事情时可以使用。
In the case of a smart student, getting an A is very easy.
